When I was working in a more formal office environment, I wore button-ups and blouses on the daily. I always thought the were cute enough, and I occasionally bought one in a fun print (check out my pineapple one here), but I wouldn’t have considered them wardrobe staples at the time. Recently I’ve seen some big time designers and bloggers rocking the “Boyfriend” button up, but most of mine were too fitted to achieve the trend.
Then, a few weeks ago, I was roaming around the mall and stopped in to H&M (per usual) to peruse some funky new accessories, or any random cool items on sale. Just then, as the heavens opened up and the angels sang, I saw it: an entire row of baggy lightweight button ups!! I chose this checkered black and white one because I just knew it would be super versatile – plus, only 25 bucks!
Look 1 : Day
So to prove just how versatile this shirt is, I decided to style it two different ways. The first was an easy every-day look perfect for afternoon coffee, running errands, or shopping! I paired the shirt with distressed shorts, cool Topshop sandals, and sunnies, and I was good to go!
Taking a serious nod from Sincerely Jules here by wearing the shirt super un-buttoned. As the queen said : “...it’s a bit sexy when you can unbutton your shirt and layer up a few of your favorite dainty necklaces!” In my case, I went with a gold and super sexy body chain 😉
A little note on these sandals : I have been wearing them pretty much non-stop this summer. You can see them here, here, and here! I’m a freak about lace-up details, so these sandals were an obvious yes 😉
Look 2 : Night
The second look I chose for this button-up was ideal for a casual party, nice dinner out, or even work! I’ve been obsessed with the leather trend lately, but most skirts I find are superrrr tight and short, which isn’t really my style. When I was hunting in the H&M sale section I was thrilled to find the midi length faux leather skirt!!!
These heels are my absolute best friends. They are super comfortable (surprising – I know!) and the shade of red is so bright and muted at the same time! Last winter I saw them on sale at Nordstrom and tried them on just because I loved the scalloped detail and mid-foot tie – it was only after the fact that I realized they were Manolo Blahnik! And with $400 off the original price, it’s fair to say I bought them real fast 🙂
